What is a DAPsc?
(Physical Assistance Device without restraint)

Statistics clearly show it: Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are a real burden having an impact on both workers and employers.

Physical/biomechanical factors (lifting heavy loads, repetitive movements, awkward postures…) are one of the main causes.

To address this, one of the solutions is to use New Physical Assistance Technologies (collaborative robots, exoskeletons, mobile robots…).

These can be classified into two categories:

Those worn on the body: referred to as exoskeletons, or Physical Assistance Devices with support (DAPac)

Those detached from the body: Physical Assistance Devices without support (DAPsc) such as assistance arms.

Specifically, a DAPsc generally appears in the form of an assistance arm fixed to the ground or a workbench, allowing it to support the weight of a tool, a piece, or a part of the body. The goal is therefore to relieve physical strain for the worker, or even to assist them in their movements for better performance of their activity.

For what uses?

Unlike exoskeletons, which are used as personal equipment for dynamic or mobile tasks, DAPsc are rather used as shared equipment at a fixed constraining workstation.

Due to their specificity, DAPsc are perfectly suited for all work environments where the activity will be repetitive or will take place over time.

For example, these devices are frequently used in:

- industry (assembly, welding, sanding, sewing stations...),

- the medical field (working under a hood, cleaning instruments...),

- or the tertiary sector (supporting upper limbs in office work).
