Hapo SD : a scientific study confirms its benefits for workers

Entry to the Global Industrie Lyon 2025 exhibition

At Hapo, we are convinced that technology can play a key role in protecting workers' health. A new independent scientific study conducted by Danish researchers has just confirmed the effectiveness of our Hapo SD exoskeleton.

Why this study?

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) remain the leading cause of work stoppage in Europe. These injuries are often related to awkward postures and repetitive movements, especially when handling heavy loads. While ergonomic training is essential, complementary solutions like exoskeletons can play an important role.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of two back exoskeletons – including the Hapo SD – on posture and performance during a repetitive load lifting exercise.

How did the study go?

The experiment was conducted over a period of 18 days, in a controlled environment. A participant, experienced in lifting techniques, performed sessions of lifting heavy loads (24kg) with and without an exoskeleton. Three conditions were tested:

- Without exoskeleton

- With the Hapo Sd

- With another exoskeleton model (BISKO)

The participant's performance was measured using two indicators, the number of repetitions performed and the duration for which he could maintain the effort before the onset of fatigue.

Additionally, each movement was analyzed with artificial intelligence software developed by Ergosanté (Hapo LEA), which evaluates posture according to the RULA scale - a recognized method for assessing MSD risks.

The key results to remember

The results are clear: the Hapo SD improves endurance while maintaining natural posture and movements.

- The researchers did not notice any significant change in posture when wearing the Hapo SD (this is consistent with the main objective of the Hapo SD as the exoskeleton was designed to reduce muscle and joint strain without altering the user's posture and movements).

- When the participant wore the Hapo SD, they performed more squat repetitions and maintained their effort longer than in conditions with the BISKO exoskeleton or without an exoskeleton. This suggests a reduction in muscle fatigue and better tolerance to effort thanks to the support provided by the Hapo SD.

These results suggest that the Hapo SD provides better support to the user, particularly through an effective redistribution of effort from the back to the thighs.

What this means for us

This study supports what many professionals in the field are already observing: the Hapo SD is an effective tool for relieving the back without compromising mobility and without altering movements.

It does not replace the adaptation of workstations and education on gestures and postures, but it serves as a reliable complementary solution to prevent fatigue and improve longevity at work.
