The Aubagne Hospital Center has been experimenting for several months with the use of the Hapo CS exoskeleton within its nursing home, for the benefit of healthcare staff. An initiative supported by the ARS PACA, and closely accompanied by the Ergosanté PACA agency.
Faced with the physical demands of healthcare professions, the hospital center aims to address the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This project is part of a call for projects by the ARS PACA focused on quality of life and working conditions.
The experiment was launched with the goal of alleviating the burden on staff during repetitive and demanding tasks, while promoting the retention of professionals who have had health issues in the past.
Among several devices tested, it is the Hapo CS exoskeleton that was selected. Adapted to the female morphology and particularly effective for daily care gestures, it convinced the teams.
Three nursing assistants and a nurse were equipped. The Ergosanté PACA agency supported the hospital at every stage: from the initial demonstration to team training, including adjusting the equipment based on field feedback.
In connection with the Ergosanté agency of Bouches-du-Rhône, a continuous improvement process has been implemented:
- Adjustment of the exoskeleton wearing durations
- Integration of a cleaning protocol adapted to the hospital environment
- Ongoing communication with the users
The initial feedback is very encouraging. Marjorie, a nurse, shares her experience:
"Once the adjustment was made, I really felt an improvement. I exert much less effort, especially when it comes to repositioning the residents. And the most striking difference is at the end of the day: my pain is significantly reduced."
Building on this initial success, the Aubagne Hospital Center plans to extend the use of Hapo CS to other departments. The goal is twofold: to preserve the health of the staff and ensure the quality of care, by focusing on innovative and inclusive tools.
This experiment reflects the close work carried out by the Hapo PACA agency, which supports each establishment with a tailored approach: needs analysis, training, trials, and usage monitoring. Their field expertise is a key lever for successfully integrating our exoskeletons into sensitive environments such as hospitals or nursing homes.
