Exoskeletons: the Confluent clinic chooses Hapo to prevent MSDs

The prevention of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) is a major issue in the healthcare sector. Constraining postures, long interventions, muscle fatigue... female surgeons and caregivers are particularly exposed. To address this issue, the Confluent clinic in Rezé has decided to equip its operating room with Hapo exoskeletons, a French innovation already widely adopted in industry and agriculture. A project successfully carried out by the Ergosanté OUEST agency.

Preventing pain in the operating room with exoskeletons

During surgical procedures such as laparoscopy, doctors sometimes keep their arms raised at 90° for several hours. This demanding posture can lead to chronic pain in the shoulders and neck.

With Hapo exoskeletons, surgeons benefit from mechanical support that relieves up to 30% of the weight of the arms. Lightweight and ergonomic, the equipment is worn like a backpack and easily adapts to medical movements. The result: less fatigue, more comfort, and better prevention of musculoskeletal disorders.

Very positive feedback from the caregivers

The female surgeons and nurses at the Confluent clinic, among the first in France to test these devices, are already highlighting concrete benefits. Some caregivers, previously limited by pain, can once again work in the operating room. This advancement contributes not only to the well-being of the medical teams but also to the quality of care provided to patients.

Hapo: a French solution for health services

Designed and manufactured in Gard, the Hapo exoskeletons are the result of French expertise in ergonomics and innovation. Already present in industry, logistics, and agriculture, they are now establishing themselves as a suitable response to the specific needs of the medical sector.

With a cost of €2,500 per exoskeleton, the investment remains significant, but it quickly proves to be cost-effective compared to the expenses caused by sick leaves related to musculoskeletal disorders. The Confluent clinic has already acquired five exoskeletons, and other establishments, such as the Nantes University Hospital, are also testing this solution.

Towards a Generalization of Exoskeletons in Hospital Settings?

The experiment conducted in Rezé shows the way: the Hapo exoskeleton represents a concrete tool to improve the health of caregivers and extend their careers. A first step towards a broader integration of these technologies in hospitals and clinics, where the prevention of MSDs is more than ever a priority.
