What is an exoskeleton?
Discover a concrete solution against work-related strain.

Long reserved for science fiction or the military world, the exoskeleton is now a tangible reality in the workplace. More and more companies, QSE managers, and field professionals are interested in it for a simple reason: to relieve physical effort without compromising performance. But concretely, what is an exoskeleton? And why consider using one in a professional context?

Discover our complete guide: professional exoskeleton

A body assistance device for everyday use

A professional exoskeleton is a mechanical device worn on the body, designed to accompany movements, support certain muscle areas (such as the back, shoulders, or arms) and reduce strain during demanding tasks. It does not replace the human, nor does it transform them: it intelligently relieves them.

At Hapo, we exclusively offer non-motorized exoskeletons. This means they require neither batteries nor complex maintenance. They rely on systems of springs to reduce biomechanical constraints during prolonged or repetitive efforts.

In which professions is the exoskeleton a game changer?

There are many applications. Here are some concrete examples from the field:

Employee organizing boxes on a rack

Logistics

A warehouse order picker handling packages all day often feels fatigue and pain in the shoulders and arms by midday. With an exoskeleton like the Hapo FRONT, posture is improved, repetitive movements are cushioned, and fatigue is significantly reduced.

construction

Painters, electricians, plasterers, or installers frequently work with their arms raised. The Hapo UP, for example, relieves the shoulders during overhead work without restricting movement.

Health and personal care

Transferring patients is a physically demanding task for the back. An adapted exoskeleton like the Hapo CS provides active trunk support while maintaining the necessary mobility in a confined environment.

Why does it work (and for whom)?

What makes the difference is not the technology alone: it is its suitability to the real needs on the ground. Our exoskeletons are used in SMEs, industrial groups, local authorities, and even agricultural operations.

No need to be a "technician" to use them: our models slip on like a backpack, are quickly adjustable, compatible with clothing or PPE, and require no connection. They can even be shared among several employees.

+

The feedback is consistent:

. A reduction in pain at the end of the day

. A better working posture

. A gain in comfort that is felt from the first hours

. And sometimes, an easier return to work after a period of leave

What the research says

According to the INRS, "passive exoskeletons allow for reducing the effort of lumbar muscles by 10 to 60% on average" (Source: Occupational Health Reference No. 166 - June 2021), while maintaining the fluidity of movement. Other studies highlight their interest in preventing MSDs (musculoskeletal disorders), which currently account for nearly 9 out of 10 occupational diseases in France (Source: Health Insurance - Occupational Risks 2023).

An approach that goes beyond the product

At Hapo.eu, we know that an exoskeleton is not a miracle solution: it is one tool among others in a prevention strategy. That is why we offer a free diagnosis, on-site testing phases, clear documentation, and human support.
